"You guys should start a podcast."

That's how this journey began. Initially, we recorded ourselves swooning over the muted mastery of D'Angelo's "Black Messiah" and pondering the otherworldly delicacy of Jeff Buckley's limitless talent. The conversations were spontaneous and sprawling, touching on a myriad of topics: religion, race, politics, the best way to ship New York bagels to an out-of-town friend in need. We realized that the binding element in all of these conversations was our genuine love of introducing each other to something new and evocative and, well... Dope.

Dope shit.

Dope shit is what makes Kwaku responsible for Ato's newfound devotion to Jeff Buckley. Likewise, Kwaku's admission that "Sign O' the Times" is one of the all-time greatest pieces of music, period, is due to Ato's insistence that the album is, in fact, the dopest of dope shit. From here we thought, "Wouldn't it be dope to introduce each other to dope people doing dope shit and then broadcast it to an equally dope audience?" That'd be dope.

And thus "The Dope Shit" was born.
